Miramar Hotel and Residences Redevelopment

MIRAMAR HOTEL AND RESIDENCES REDEVELOPMENT

The Miramar Hotel and Residences Redevelopment is a 5-acre hotel block located along Ocean Avenue atop the Palisades bluff of downtown Santa Monica, CA. The proposed landscape design evolved from research into the hotel site’s historic legacy and the shared desire from the client and the city for the project to be a model of a sustainable and world-class public destination.

Santa Monica is a coastal getaway and a bustling metropolis. Throughout the city’s history the site has continuously been an estate garden with a clear connection to Palisades Park across the street. The proposed redesign references and strengthens the historic garden legacy, featuring entries framed by planting and a lush Mediterranean garden. The buildings sit on a grand stone terrace that surrounds the site’s landmark fig tree and steps down towards the sea. Outside the hotel ballroom, a series of shallow reflecting pools in a grove of jacaranda trees create a shaded, calm respite for casual seating that doubles as a large event space.
